Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov criticized Israel and the US for deteriorating the regional situation as he addressed a meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation of the Near East on September 27.

The Israeli troops’ operation is going on despite the adoption of resolutions by the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly calling for enforcing a ceasefire and providing a stable humanitarian route to the Gaza Strip, he decried.

The crisis in the Gaza Strip, which is unprecedented in the light of cruelty and destructive effect, has become a catalyst for rapidly aggravating Lebanon-Israel confrontation, he said, strongly denouncing the Israeli side for wantonly violating the sovereignty of Lebanon.

If the US had not supported Israel in every way, the dispute would have ended more quickly and effectively, he said, adding that the US representatives should choose whether to keep hindering the work of the UNSC or demand the termination of the war siding with the international community calling for peace.
