Young footballers get a hero’s welcome on return from world cup
September 29, 2024DPRK women footballers won the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup held in Colombia, overpowering all strong opponents. They lifted the trophy for the third time as it did in 2006 and 2016, emerging as the world's strongest team.
They returned home on September 28.
Vice-Premier of the DPRK Kim Myong Hun, Minister of Physical Culture and Sports Kim Il Guk, Minister of External Economic Relations Yun Jong Ho who is chairman of the DPRK Football Association, officials concerned, and the families of players were standing at the apron of the airport terminal to greet them.
When the plane carrying Korean women footballers entered the apron, crowds broke into cheers of "Welcome" and "Congratulations".
Sportspersons and working people presented bouquets to the players and coaches who got off the plane with gold medals and congratulated them, putting garlands around their necks.
Parents embraced their daughters with great pride and joy.
Women footballers left Pyongyang International Airport on an open vehicle decorated with flowers.
The streets of Pyongyang were filled with the fervent atmosphere of welcoming the young footballers who excited the women's football world again.
They extended thanks to the cheering citizens, recalling the time when they played games, warmly encouraged by all the people across the country.
