Public catering facilities on Kyonghung Street lure many
September 28, 2024Public catering facilities on Kyonghung Street in Pyongyang are a favourite haunt of many.
They include a beer house, pulgogi (roast meat) house and dedicated restaurant for wedding ceremonies. Particularly, the Taedonggang beer house of the Kyonghung Restaurant is most crowded with customers.
According to Kwon Hwa Suk, head of the waitress group, customers prefer polished rice beer to others in different colours and tastes and therefore demand for beers Nos. 2 and 3 is the highest.
After their everyday work, people drop in on the house and drink fresh beer in pleasant mood.
Even total strangers become acquaintances as they drink beer at one table and spend a pleasant time telling each other the stories in their life.
The dedicated restaurant for wedding ceremonies is also well known to citizens.
It has five halls for wedding ceremonies, a souvenir shop and all other conditions for organizing wedding party like photo service.
In the past 30-odd years, lots of young people had wedding ceremonies in the restaurant.
Passers-by give blessings to brides and bridegrooms going into the wedding halls, which is a distinctive scene on Kyonghung Street.
Meanwhile, the pulgogi house and outdoor stands serving different kinds of foods are also a magnet for people.
Kim Myong Hyon, an old man living in Kyonghung-dong, Pothonggang District, Pyongyang, said: “In the past over 30 years, service conditions and environment have changed a lot. Kinder services are provided and conditions of service amenities have become better. What remains unchanged is that everything serves the people.”
The public catering facilities on Kyonghung Street were built in 1987.
