Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a press conference on September 20 that his country is fully ready to defend its political and military interests in the North Pole.

Noting that NATO coveting the Arctic region has begun to claim that it has interests also in the region in the light of geopolitical position, he made an issue of the fact that the organization is expanding its military exercises, insisting on the “possibility of crisis” in the North Pole.

He said that NATO is stretching its tentacles to the North Pole, out of the desire to generalize, legalize and consolidate its position as the “gendarme” of not only the North Atlantic but the whole world, adding Russia will defend its interests in the region.
