2024 Indoor Athletics Championships held
September 18, 2024The 2024 Indoor Athletics Championships were held in August at the Athletics Gymnasium on Chongchun Street and Sosan Football Stadium in Pyongyang.
They brought together nearly 150 male and female players from 18 units including the Amnokgang and Pyongyang sports clubs and April 25 Sports Team.
National records were renewed in two events at the championships which took place, divided into 19 events.
Jo Kum Ryong, player of the Amnokgang Sports Club who had broken the DPRK record in the men’s 60m race last year, set a new record again in the event.
Two runners bettered the DPRK record in the men’s 800m race.
Kim Kwang Ho from the Suyangsan Sports Club and Ju Man Chol from the Amnokgang Sports Club broke the old record by displaying high speed and perseverance from the beginning to the end.
At the championships, players of the Kigwancha Sports Club made a clean sweep of all trophies in the men’s 60m race, 60m hurdles, long jump and triple jump and the women’s 800m race.
Those from the Amnokgang Sports Club won the women’s 400m race, 60m hurdles and 4×400m relay and 4×400m mixed relay respectively.
The April 25 Sports Team was placed first in the women’s 60m, 1 500m and 3 000m races, with the Suyangsan and Songchongang sports clubs winning the men’s 800m race and women’s long jump respectively.
