Fishery resources under good conservation

August 6, 2024

Efforts are being made to protect fishery resources in different parts of the DPRK.

Fish farming units in Kaesong have actively applied natural and artificial egg collection methods in line with their specific conditions to increase fish production1.2 times more than previously.

The city people’s committee built spawning grounds to raise the natural breeding coefficient of fishes and arranged demonstrations on advanced egg collection methods in rivers and reservoirs to help employees of fish farming units theoretically understand the technical problems arising in fish farming.

The Kaesong City Pedigree Fish Breeding Station stocked water areas with a lot of fries and established a gravity-fed water supply system in order to raise fish on a large scale while putting the nutrition management of pedigree fish on a scientific basis.

Fish farming units in Jangphung County and Kaephung District of the city built hatcheries to increase fry output based on artificial insemination, while taking measures to supply protein feed like Hermetia illucens.

Meanwhile, the Kaechon City Stocking Fishery Station and Thaechon County Mandarin Fish Breeding Station are raising a large number of fries of mandarin fish by efficiently providing necessary conditions for increasing the mandarin fish resources in Lakes Yonphung and Thaechon.

Provinces completed the placing of millions of square metres of straw matting for collecting eggs into rivers, lakes and reservoirs and stocked them with tens of millions of fries to make a positive contribution to increasing the fishery resources of the country.
