Russian President Vladimir Putin mentioned the issue of using digital currency at an economic conference on July 17.

He said that digital currency is in essence a type of national monetary unit and that its features are that its use enables citizens and enterprises to settle accounts with at any banks.

What is important for Russia is to provide legitimate grounds and work out coordinative plans in time to have access to digital assets not only at home but also in the relationship with foreign countries, without missing opportunity, and to create conditions including the development of infrastructures, he asserted.

Saying that digital currency technology has started to change the previous schemata in the aspects of trade, banking and international payment, he stressed the need for Russia to switch to more widely introducing digital currency in the fields of economy, business activities and finance.
