The chief of the general staff of the Belorussian armed forces appeared in a TV programme on June 30 to warn the US and NATO against reinforcing their troops across the border of his country.

Ten battalion-level tactical groups of NATO have been deployed there to conduct operations, the number of troops is over 20 000 and six tactical groups are American units, he said, making an issue of their flight across the ocean and their deployment across the border.

Saying plans have been mapped out to cope with such military provocations, he stressed that the Belorussian armed forces would use tactical nuclear weapons in case their national sovereignty and independence are exposed to danger.
