Five elements in agricultural development display vitality

July 2, 2024

With a deep insight into the specific conditions of the country and the trend of modern agricultural development, the Workers’ Party of Korea clarified five elements for radically developing the country's agriculture.

They include a revolution in seed production, scientific farming, bringing of new land under plough, increased crop yield in low-yield fields and intensified Party guidance.

The idea on the five elements the WPK set forth by carrying forward and further enriching and developing the Juche-based farming method and the policy of agricultural revolution personally created and bequeathed by President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il clarifies in an original way the orientation and ways for rapidly developing the country's agriculture in the shortest possible time on the basis of the scientific analysis of the actual situation in the agricultural sector and the actual possibility of agricultural development.

And it also provided a turning point in decisively rooting out empiricism, subjectivism, bureaucratism and formalism and thoroughly implementing the Party’s agricultural policy, proving its validity and vitality in practice.

In recent years, the Wado Farm in Kwaksan County and many other farms in North Phyongan Province have reaped high and stable yields every year despite unfavourable weather and climate conditions. Officials of the farm find the secret of success in the revolution in seed production.

Many farms in cities and counties of the province staked their fate on introducing new high-yielding varieties, which are highly resistant to unfavourable conditions, and brought about a revolution in seed production, producing high and stable crop.

The key to success at many high-yielding units across the country, including the Samjigang Farm in Jaeryong County, Paeksok and Unjong farms in Sinchon County and Chonghae Farm in Pukchong County which produce high and safe yield every year in any conditions and the Yakjon Farm in Sukchon County which reaps high wheat harvest in succession, also lies in that they held fast to the policy on bringing about a revolution in seed production and promoting scientific farming set forth by the WPK as their lifeline and implemented it thoroughly.

High-yielding sub-workteams, workteams and farms have increased in number and material and technical foundations of the agricultural sector have also been further consolidated.

Each farm is furnished with its own agricultural sci-tech learning space and advanced farming techniques and products have steadily been introduced in keeping with the global trend of agricultural development to inspire the agricultural workers to do scientific farming. Great efforts are being directed to establishing an optimized agricultural guidance and management system in all cities, counties, farms and workteams across the country.

Meanwhile, tideland reclamation has been carried out as a national undertaking, with the result that several islands are linked by sea dikes to bring a large area of arable land under cultivation, arable lands washed away by floods are restored to their original state and campaigns are underway to find out the area of land which became smaller than the land registration map across the country.

Officials and working people in the agricultural sector are channelling big efforts into improving acid soil and cold and damp land and carpeting arable land with humus soil, while pushing ahead with the work to improve soil fertility by spreading large quantities of quality manure.

Amid a vigorous campaign to overtake, model after and share experience with units and agricultural workers taking the lead in farming in low-yield fields for widely generalizing their experiences in producing high-yields, they are introducing efficient farming methods and techniques helpful in increasing crop yields by pooling strength and wisdom with agricultural scientists.

As a result, considerable areas of low-yield fields have been turned into fertile land in a matter of a few years and many sub-workteams, workteams and farms, which had regarded it as a dream to produce high yields in the past, have joined the ranks of high-yielding units.
