Russia takes countermeasure against EU mass media

June 30, 2024

Russia announced that it would limit the reporting of 81 mass media outlets of the European Union in its territory.

The Russian Foreign Ministry in a statement on June 25 said that this measure has been taken in reaction to the European Council's ban on the activities of three Russian media outlets.

The statement said that access restrictions are to be enforced on a series of mass media outlets of the EU member states and the organization which are systematically spreading false information about the progress of special military operations in the territory of the Russian Federation.

The EU has taken the road of escalating tension and enforced an unreasonable ban, although the Russian side repeatedly warned against the acts of persecuting Russian journalists and unreasonably forbidding activities of the mass media outlets in the space of the EU, thus compelling Moscow to counter them, it pointed out.

The blame for the negative development of the situation entirely lies with the EU leadership and member states of the organization that supported such a decision, it stressed.
