Members of one family

One day last May, Kim Hyon Jun, staffer of the Pyongyang Cinematography Company, smiled after successfully fulfilling a difficult task with painstaking efforts.

He is an honoured disabled soldier. Though he had started to work recently, he became able to carry out any task thanks to the warm loving care of the collective.

Whenever employees congratulate him for having achieved a good success in his work, he recollects those kindhearted people who have shown affection for him.

In fact, when he was assigned to the company, he worried about his health and poor knowledge of cinematography.

At that time, officials and employees encouraged him, saying they would give him help.

They gave technical assistance to Hyon Jun while burning the midnight oil and paid particular attention to his health.

With the help of the collective, his technical knowledge and skills increased day by day.

They were not the only ardent helper of the ordinary honoured disabled soldier.

Ri Phil Son, an employee at the Pyongyang International House of Culture and colleague of Kim’s mother Ri Ok Hwa, is one of his kind supporters.

Some years ago, Phil Son noticed Ok Hwa’s pale complexion.

When she asked why, Ok Hwa told her that the disabled son lost his appetite a few days ago and failed to have meals properly.

That night, Phil Son visited Hyon Jun's home with a lot of tonics and nutritious foods.

His family members were moved by the image of Phil Son inquiring about his condition as soon as she entered his house and trying hard to help him regain his appetite.

Several years have passed since she made acquaintance with the honoured disabled soldier and she continues to show every sincerity for him.

When she obtained early fruits, she gave them to his mother on their way home after a day’s work, so that her son could taste them. She also secured new clothes for him. Last year, she arranged a wedding table for Hyon Jun with the feeling of his real sister.

Phil Son would visit Hyon Jun’s house on his birthday every year and provided him with a complete set of new clothes and school things when he enrolled at Songyo College of Technology.

"I have been able to achieve success in my work, as there are such kind people who have treated me like their family member and the benevolent socialist system that identifies such persons like me as honoured disabled soldiers. I will work harder, always cherishing gratitude toward them," said Hyon Jun.
