Anak Tomb No. 3

June 28, 2024

Anak Tomb No. 3 is located in Anak County, South Hwanghae Province.

The tomb is about 30 metres wide from east to west and about 33 metres long from south to north and it looks like a mountain as it is on a hill.

The inside of the tomb consists of a passage, a doorway, a front compartment, two side compartments east and west of the front compartment, a tomb chamber and corridors east and north of the chamber.

The tomb chamber was mostly built with well-processed plain rocks.

Its mural painted on a large finely ground plain limestone rock is a figure and genre painting.

Archaeologists of the DPRK steadily conducted the discovery and study of relics dating back to the period of Koguryo (277 BC–AD 668), thereby scientifically proving that Anak Tomb No. 3 is the Mausoleum of King Kogugwon.

The mausoleum is on the list of world cultural heritage.
