The light industry sector is putting effort into improving the quality of goods.

The Ninth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea stressed the need for the light industry sector to set it as the primary task for this year to improve the quality of consumer goods and condiments. Accordingly, factories and enterprises in the sector are intensifying competition to increase the production of goods and make a leap forward in improving their quality at the same time.

The Pyongyang Kim Jong Suk Textile Mill established a quality test order for each process ranging from the receipt of raw materials to shipment in order to improve the quality of cloth for school uniforms.

The Songyo Knitwear Factory increased the variety of knit fabrics by developing and introducing a method of using tetron rayon yarn to produce knit fabrics for overclothes and a colour matching simulation program and by newly updating a heat treatment temperature control system and raised the proportion of acceptable products by reducing the deflection of heat treatment temperature much more than before.

The footwear industry sector is also afire with enthusiasm for such competition.

The Ministry of Light Industry is solving problems arising in improving the quality of students’ shoes one after another.

The footwear research institute under the ministry supplies new types of shoe moulds and shoetrees to footwear producers and the Phyongsong Synthetic Leather Factory is improving quality indexes of urethane synthetic leather.

They also pay attention to taking measures to keep the shapes of students’ shoes intact during the supply of them and raising the grade of the products by improving packing methods.

The Ryuwon Footwear Factory made slate pencils for marking the outer rims of students’ shoes to improve their quality.

It newly developed the pencils which are very easy to make and whose raw material is plentiful and introduced them into production, thus increasing the speed of drawing marking lines and sewing more than 1.2 times and further improving the quality of shoes.

Other footwear producers, whose products were impartially rated at past exhibitions, also strive to share and transfer advanced experiences in order to develop new products and improve their quality.

The Taehung cosmetics production station has recently developed and produced more than 10 kinds of quality cosmetics, which are popular with customers.

In particular, various Chilbosan-brand functional cosmetics are favourite with everybody as they are good for whitening, retarding aging and blocking ultraviolet rays and effectively adaptable to the skin damaged by the disturbed balance of moisture or the dry skin.

The production station equipped itself with modern facilities for analysis, measurement and experiment to fully guarantee the quality of products.

The Pyongyang Cornstarch Factory, Pyongyang Wheat Flour Processing Factory, Pyongyang Condiments Factory and other foodstuff factories are also introducing advanced techniques by focusing on the improvement of quality of products.
