Pyongyang International Football School located in a section of beautiful Rungna Islet on the Taedong River in Pyongyang is a base for training reserve footballers, which is provided with all conditions for schoolchildren with extraordinary aptitude for football to learn to their heart’s content while living there.

The school consists of a school building, a dormitory, several outdoor and indoor training grounds and welfare facilities. Quick-witted students with good physical conditions and suitable constitution are carefully selected from across the country to be admitted into the school or into classes of the school. They  undergo practical training to develop into competent players while receiving education in general subjects at primary, junior and senior classes according to ages.

According to Kim Kwang Chol, section chief of the school, the school's curriculum is implemented with emphasis put on the development of football and the teaching contents are designed to help students fully acquire knowledge of the sport.

The school makes a comparative analysis of students’ growth in physique and practical ability through monthly assessment of their practical ability to draw up relevant training plans and train them in accordance with the plans and actively introduces practicable teaching methods for enabling them to enhance their ability to correctly and promptly judge situations and take correct positions, and to raise their consciousness about tactics, he said.

The school has consistently pushed ahead with the work to steadily improve the teaching contents and methods, thus increasing the number of winners of the title of October 8 Model Teacher and the holders of certificates of registration of new teaching methods among its teachers and inventing and introducing many excellent teaching and training methods.

The integrated education and management information system “Phurunjandi (green turf)”developed by the school to put education and management on an IT basis won the top prize at the 23rd national exhibition of sports sci-tech achievements held in October 2019.

Since its opening in May 2013, students and graduates of the school have been active in competitions at home and abroad, making a positive contribution to exalting the honour of the country.

This year, too, the DPRK team won the AFC U-20 Women's Asian Cup and among those who contributed to its win were Pak Mi Ryong, Min Kyong Jin, Han Hong Ryon, Kim Song Gyong and Choe Il Son, graduates of the school. Choe Il Son also acted as a mainstay of her team in the 2024 AFC U-17 Women's Asian Cup, thus contributing to the team's victory.

Mentioning that the history of the school and its achievements are unthinkable apart from the great care of the Workers’ Party of Korea and the state, Kim Kwang Chol said that Chairman Kim Jong Il initiated the construction of the school and that the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un  showed great concern and care for the construction and management and operation of the school and visited it, though pressed for time with state affairs, to give wise instructions on its work.
