The nutritious foods for children have been increased in variety.

General Secretary Kim Jong Un set forth providing children, the future of the country, with more improved conditions for bringing them up even at the cost of huge sums of money as the most important policy at the Third Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea in June 2021.

Later, the DPRK law on childcare was adopted, which stipulates that the state shall establish a well-knit children’s nutritious food production and supply system, supply all the children with nutritious foods like dairy products for free and in a regular way and provide them with best conditions for their upbringing.

Accordingly, dairy products are being supplied to all the children between seven months after birth and six years of age across the country without missing a day, as well as confectionery and fish.

Follow-up steps are being taken in succession as the supply standard of nutritious foods for children has been improved since last year.

According to Choe Ju Hyok, deputy department director of the Ministry of Commerce, a system was set up in the country scores of years ago to supply the children at nurseries and kindergartens in all parts of the country with nutritious foods under the care of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il.

With an intention to bring up the children more healthily and brightly, the General Secretary saw to it that nutritious foods to be supplied to them were increased in variety, supply norms were set again according to ages and a production and supply system was perfected.

For example, powdered kelp and powdered bones have been added more to the category of nutritious foods for children.

According to experts, such newly-added nutritious foods have a positive influence on the growth of children.

In particular, powdered bones are recognized as one of the children’s promising growth-promoting foods as they contain more than 20 kinds of amino acids including essential amino acid, fat-soluble vitamins like vitamin A and microelements and minerals.

Powdered bone production facilities have already been researched and manufactured to conduct production at relevant units.

All the nutritious food producers in the capital city of Pyongyang and other parts of the country are concentrating their efforts on turning out children’s nutritious foods as scheduled and supplying them to nursery and kindergarten children on a regular basis.
