A spokesman for the Chinese Defence Ministry on May 24 clarified China’s stand to safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.

Referring to the fact that the Eastern Battle Zone of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army recently organized joint military exercises around Taiwan to check the capability for joint operation and actual battle, he said that the recent drill was a fully legitimate, just and necessary action aimed at dealing a blow to the forces seeking the “independence of Taiwan” and giving a warning against foreign interference and intervention.

Saying that the Chinese People’s Liberation Army would defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity by practical action, he noted that whenever there is provocation for the “independence of Taiwan”, the counterattack against it will get stronger.
