Chinese deputy representative calls for promoting political solution to Syrian issue

March 27, 2024

The Chinese deputy permanent representative to the United Nations appealed to the international community to ease the humanitarian crisis in Syria and promote political solution to the Syrian issue by joining efforts at an open session of the UN Security Council on political and humanitarian issues of Syria on March 21.

Saying that unilateral sanctions and plundering of resources have long obstructed economic recovery, social development and improvement of people’s living standard in Syria, he demanded relevant countries immediately stop illegal acts and put an end to unlawful military presence in the Syrian territory.

He said that China welcomes measures that the Syrian government took to strike terrorism and defend the security and stability of the state.

After the Palestine-Israel conflict occurred, Israel frequently made air raids on different spots in Syria to severely infringe upon its sovereignty and territorial integrity, he added.

He called on the international community to redouble efforts to promote the achievement of a permanent ceasefire with the realization of an unconditional ceasefire in the Gaza Strip as a breakthrough and thus contribute to peace and stability in the whole Middle East including Syria.
