Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in a diplomatic meeting on March 17 appealed to the international community to take measures for preventing a humanitarian disaster in the Gaza Strip. 

If Israel launches an attack on Rafah city in the southern part of the Gaza Strip where more than 1.5 million Palestinians have taken refuge, it will lead to a terrible humanitarian disaster, he noted, adding that it is the most pressing task facing the international community to prevent such a disaster.

He also stressed that it is necessary to put pressure on Israel to open all the transport routes to the Gaza Strip so that aid materials can be delivered to Palestinians without delay.
