It has been 33 years since the historic Pyongyang Declaration “Let Us Defend and Advance the Cause of Socialism” was made public.

In April 1992, the leaders and representatives of the communist and workers’ parties of different countries and other political parties aspiring after socialism, who visited the DPRK to participate in the celebrations of the 80th birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung, adopted the Pyongyang Declaration reflecting their firm will to defend and advance the socialist cause.

The publication of the Pyongyang Declaration was really of great significance for the progressive mankind who witnessed the tragic collapse of socialism in different countries between the late 1980s and the early 1990s.

Children, the future of every country, should naturally be the object of national concern and protection.

But what is the plight of children in Western countries that boast of economic development and “civilization”?

The results of a survey on housing problem which started last year were mentioned at the British Parliament on April 3. According to them, 164 000 homeless children are living in temporary shelters in England.

Since olden times, the Korean people have made and used different kinds of necessities and ornaments by using various grasses and the stems, leaves and bark of trees.

People called the making of such things grasswork.

Grasswork has the longest history among other folk handicrafts and has been developed and enriched in close connection with people’s economic and cultural life.

The Japanese authorities included 8.7 trillion yen, the largest amount ever, as "defense expense" in the budget for 2025.

A considerable portion of the "defense expense" will reportedly go into the construction of military equipment.

For example, it includes the deployment of long-range missiles, the adding of the function of launching missiles from warships for the introduction of US-made Tomahawk cruise missiles and the development of land-based long-range precision guided missiles for attacking warships and ground targets.

Russia and Egypt recently waged a joint naval exercise in the eastern waters of the Mediterranean. 

It involved frigates, small missile ships, supply ships and fighters of the two countries’ navies.

During the exercise, the seamen reportedAly practised the skills of repulsing the attack of fighters.

The Egyptian foreign ministry issued a statement on April 13 to denounce Israel’s unethical air raids on the Gaza Strip. 

The Israeli forces dealt an air attack on a hospital in Gaza that day and terribly destroyed it, which the statement branded as a wanton violation of international law and regulations.

The statement urged Israel to immediately stop all acts of attack on the Gaza Strip and not to check the introduction of humanitarian aid materials into the area.

The Venezuelan minister of defence denounced the US’ human rights abuses at an event marking the founding of the Bolivarian militia corps on April 10.

The US has recently dubbed Venezuelan immigrants as criminals and detained them in El Salvador, which the defence minister described as a violation of elementary human rights.

He expressed his indignation that it was not only an attack on Venezuela but an unethical act that they handcuffed the immigrants just because they were Venezuelans, brought them to another country and imprisoned them without any reasonable ground.

The Ninth April Spring People's Art Festival, which opened in Pyongyang on the occasion of the 113th birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung, came to an end with due ceremony at the Pyongyang Acrobatic Theatre on April 17.

Present at the ceremony were Ju Chang Il, department director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, officials concerned, participants in the festival and Pyongyang citizens.

The group prize was awarded to 24 units highly appreciated at the festival, ensemble prize to 13 works, creation prize to 14 persons and prize for best acting to 36 persons.

A meeting was held on the spot on April 17 to mark the 70th founding anniversary of the Korean Industrial Design Studio.

Present there were Kim Tok Hun, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, officials concerned and officials and employees of the studio.

At the meeting, Kim Tok Hun conveyed a congratulatory message of the WPK Central Committee to the creators and officials of the studio.
