Respected Comrade Kim Jong Un inspects sites of reconstruction of flood-hit areas in North Phyongan Province

Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and president of the State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, inspected again sites of reconstruction of flood-hit areas in North Phyongan Province on November 4.

He was accompanied by Jo Yong Won and Ri Il Hwan, secretaries of the Central Committee of the WPK, and relevant cadres of the Central Committee of the WPK.

He was greeted by Ri Hi Yong, chief secretary of the North Phyongan Provincial Committee of the WPK, and commanding officers of the Korean People's Army units and the Paektusan Hero Youth Shock Brigade involved in the reconstruction project.

Thanks to the dynamic patriotic efforts of all the builders who rose up as one in hearty response to the militant call of the WPK Central Committee to turn the flood-hit areas into ideal "cultured country town" by building dwelling houses as civilized and modern as those in cities, the flood-hit farm villages on islets of the northwestern part of the country that suffered disasters are revealing their new appearances day after day to fully demonstrate the beautiful reality of the advantageous socialist system of the Korean style and instil confidence and optimism about the future.

Going round the areas under reconstruction in Ojok-ri of Uiju County and Hadan-ri of the city of Sinuiju, he learned in detail about the project.

Farms reap rich harvest in North Hamgyong Province

The news of high yield is reported every day at farms in North Hamgyong Province.

The Ingye Farm in the city of Hoeryong surpassed the peak-year level this year following last year, and the Ponam Farm increased the grain yield 1.5 times as against last year.

The Songsang Farm in the city of Kim Chaek boosted the per-hectare grain output by more than two tons on average compared with last year.

Respected Comrade Kim Jong Un sends birthday spread to centenarian

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un sent a birthday spread to Han Hyon Ok, a woman centenarian living in neighbourhood unit No. 57 of Pidan-ri, Kumya County, South Hamgyong Province, on her 100th birthday.

Officials of the Kumya County Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea and villagers visited her family to congratulate her.

She and her family and relatives expressed heartfelt gratitude for the loving care shown by Kim Jong Un who sent a birthday spread even to an ordinary old woman.

2024 national table-tennis open begins

The 2024 National Open Table-Tennis Tournament began in the DPRK.

The tournament has brought together more than 200 table-tennis experts and fans from different parts of the country. They will complete in the men's and women's singles of experts and fans, men's and women's singles of fans (under 45 years old and over 46 years old) and men's and women's doubles and mixed doubles with experts and fans in groups.

An opening ceremony took place at the Table-Tennis Gymnasium on Chongchun Street in Pyongyang on November 3.

Korean folk song Arirang

National music is widely sung among the DPRK people as they have continuously carried on the soul and tradition of the nation.

But no other song is known by everybody and sung frequently like folk song Arirang.

The song truthfully reflects the sorrow of separation between man and woman and the joy of their reunion, joyful working life and the desire to live happily in a bright world.

Attracted by charm of potted plants

Potted dwarf trees cultivated by a plant fancier attracted special interest of visitors at the recent national plants exhibition, “Plants of the DPRK-2024”.

The presenter of the trees was Kim Son Hwa, who is just around 60 and lives in Misan-dong No. 2 of Taesong District, Pyongyang. She was satisfied with her success at the show.

In the course of cultivating potted plants, people keenly feel the beauty of nature and come to have noble personality, rich emotion and optimism about life, she said.

Ryongnim brown bear, living monument

The bear inhabits an area over 1 400 metres above sea level in a region where there stand such high peaks as Wagal Peak (2 260 metres above sea level), the highest peak of the Rangnim Mountains.

Some of the animals are 150-180cm long. They usually weigh 180-250kg. Their fur colour varies according to zones and seasons, but it is generally dark brown or black.

The bear hibernates in a rock cave, a hollow tree or a lair it digs under a fallen tree. It goes into the hibernating place between November and December and comes out of the place between March and April. It does not leave its fixed living place.

Russian FM denounces US and NATO for hegemonic policy

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov condemned the US and NATO’s policy of hegemony at an international conference on security of Eurasia on October 31.

Noting that NATO is not content with the war against Russia provoked by the Ukrainian authorities, he accused the US and its followers of trying to turn the whole Eurasian region into a theatre of geopolitical confrontation. 

NATO intends to establish its military supremacy not only in Europe but also in the eastern part of Eurasia and is working hard to take root in the region under the pretext of carrying out the Indian-Pacific strategy, while inventing an excuse for restoring the military presence in Central Asian countries.

Farm in North Phyongan overfulfills national grain production plan again, holds meeting for account settlement and income distribution

The Ilhae Farm in Jongju, North Phyongan Province, has reaped a rich harvest every year by dint of scientific farming.

While directing primary efforts to putting the scientific agricultural production on a higher level, the farm distributed high-yield varieties highly resistant to salinity, drought, rainstorm and diseases in conformity with the regional characteristics as it is located on the seashore and established scientific cultivation methods. 

It operated a newly built slow-action granulated fertilizer production base at full capacity, spread a lot of organic fertilizer and manure on fields to improve their fertility and dug drainage canals in the sections extending for scores of kilometres, thus providing a guarantee for a rich and stable harvest.  

DPRK Foreign Minister lays wreath at Tomb of Unknown Soldier

DPRK Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui, who is on a visit to the Russian Federation, and her party laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier beside the Kremlin walls on November 1.

Andrei Rudenko, deputy foreign minister of the Russian Federation, and other Russian officials accompanied her.

A wreath in the name of the DPRK Foreign Minister was laid at the tomb.
