An enlarged plenary meeting of the Cabinet took place on April 3.

Premier Pak Thae Song, who is also member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, directed the meeting.

It was attended by vice-premiers Kim Jong Gwan and Yang Sung Ho and other Cabinet members.

A central photo exhibition opened to show the immortal exploits the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea, performed to glorify 2024 as a year of proud victory.

On display at the exhibition venue were photos showing the personality traits of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un as a great man.

The photos tell about the greatness of the respected General Secretary who illuminated the action programmes for achieving the fighting goals for 2024 and ensured that a highest institution of education was built to carry forward the lifeline of the Workers’ Party of Korea and its ever-victorious leadership ability. 

DPRK players returned home on April 1 after taking part in the 20th Asian Marathon Championships.

Han Il Ryong won the winner’s trophy and a gold medal in the men's marathon and Ri Kwang Ok came second in the women's marathon.

They were greeted at Pyongyang International Airport by Kim Il Guk, minister of Physical Culture and Sports, officials concerned, officials in the field of sports and sportspersons. 

Pak In Chol, chairman of the Supreme People’s Assembly of the DPRK, met and had a friendly talk with Kazbek Taysaev, head of the Russia-DPRK friendship parliamentary group of the Russian State Duma who is leading the visiting delegation of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall in Pyongyang on April 2.

Present there were Ri Chol, president of the Academy of Medical Science of the Ministry of Public Health who is chairman of the DPRK-Russia friendship parliamentary group, officials concerned and members of the delegation of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation and Alexandr Matsegora, Russian ambassador to the DPRK.

A delegation of the Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea headed by deputy speaker Maeng Kyong Il left Pyongyang on April 3 to take part in the 150th Conference of the Inter-Parliamentary Union to be held in Uzbekistan.

It was seen off at Pyongyang International Airport by Pak Kum Hui, deputy speaker of the SPA. 

The Wonsan Seafood Production and Processing Station increases mussel production by introducing an advanced method of breeding mussels. 

What is notable in the station’s breeding of mussels is the introduction of the new breeding method which can markedly increase the per-hectare yield.

The advantage of the new mussel breeding method is that it helps increase mussel production by way of transplanting thinned out mussels on new guide lines without discarding them as before.

The fishing condition is changing greatly due to El Nino and other abnormal weather conditions.

Accordingly, the Kangwon Provincial Fishery Management Bureau is channelling great efforts into offshore farming this year, true to the Workers’ Party’s policy on diversifying fishing and briskly conducting fish farming in the sea and offshore farming.

All the units under the management bureau are actively carrying on this undertaking after setting a high target for producing shellfish and seaweeds.

A stone Buddhist image dating back to the early years of Koryo (918-1392) has recently been unearthed in Yakjon-ri, Sukchon County, South Phyongan Province, and registered as a relic of preservation.

Officials and a research group of the Archaeology Institute of the Academy of Social Sciences and the National Authority for the Protection of Cultural Heritage have made a deep survey and unearthing of historical relics. In the course of this, they discovered this stone Buddhist image.

The stone Buddhist image depicting Amitabha is 171 cm high and 26-54 cm thick.

In the past century, Japan occupied Korea militarily and expanded its overseas aggression to Asia. The Japanese imperialists proclaimed the fascist “Law on National Mobilization” on April 1 1938 in order to allocate human and material resources needed for expanding the war.

It was a draconian law aimed at forcing everyone to conduct economic activities as required by the wartime and addressing the shortage of labour force and materials by dint of legal power of ruling organs.

It stipulated that all material and human resources including weapons, warships, means of transport and raw materials and equipment should be mobilized for the protracted war of aggression.
