The Egyptian Foreign Ministry in a statement on May 21 criticized Israel for its provocative act against Al-Aqsa Mosque in East al-Quds.

Blaming a high-ranking official of the Zionist regime for intruding into the mosque with heavily-armed Israeli troops that day, the statement said such an act would be a flash point which would escalate the Palestinian-Israeli dispute.

It demanded the Israeli authorities immediately stop any acts that would heighten tension in the occupied Palestinian territories.

On the same day, the spokesman for the Jordanian Foreign Ministry denounced the intrusion into the mosque by an Israeli official as a provocative act which might fuel widespread violence in the region.

It is also an act of undermining international law and the historical and legal position of al-Quds, he noted, adding the Israeli authorities should discontinue all attempts to change the position of al-Quds and holy places there.
