Rock in the shape of elephant

February 9, 2023

Khokkiri Rock stands in Pidan Islands in Sindo County of North Phyongan Province.

It was named thus as the rock looks like an elephant, and the granite rock reminds viewers of a small rocky islet.

At high tide, the rock looks like an elephant swimming in the water, and at low tide when the tideland is exposed, it seems as if the elephant is caught in a marsh.

The rock was designated as a natural monument as it is of great significance in the academic study of the weathering of granite and change in nature after the water of the West Sea of Korea reached the present level, and as it adds beauty to the coastal scenery.
