DPRK Championships begin

The national championships of the DPRK kicked off.

The competition has brought together the April 25 Team, the Amnokgang Sports Club, the Defence Sports Club of the Ministry of Defence and others. They will compete in more than 530 events of 31 sports such as football, basketball, weightlifting, shooting and Taekwon-Do.

The opening ceremony was held at Kim Il Sung Stadium on September 13.

Present there were Kim Tok Hun, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, vice-president of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK and premier of the Cabinet, Ri Il Hwan, member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK, Ri Thae Sop, minister of Public Security, Vice-Premier Kim Song Ryong, senior officials of commissions, ministries and national agencies, officials concerned, Pyongyang citizens and sportspersons.

Kim Il Guk, minister of Physical Culture and Sports, delivered an opening address.

And the flag symbolizing the competition was hoisted amid the playing of the song The Glorious Country.

There was a march-past of teams followed by matches.
