Painter good at drawing bamboos
February 2, 2023Ryu Tok Jang (1694-1774) was a famous painter who drew bamboos well in the period of the feudal Joson dynasty.
Among his pictures, dozens of pieces have been handed down, especially eight- and six-fold bamboo screens, “bamboo” and “snow-covered bamboo”.
His drawings of bamboo included a variety of depictions in the seasonal conditions of spring, summer, autumn and winter and under different situations when it snowed, rained and was windy.
Ryu’s pictures of bamboo were drawn in ink, but they ensure the truth of representation for his correct brushwork.
