There is a hospital village in the Munsu area of Pyongyang.

Standing side by side in the village are the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital, affectionately called by women as their “parents’ home”, Okryu Children’s Hospital, Ryugyong Dental Hospital, Ryugyong General Ophthalmic Hospital, Koryo Medicine General Hospital and others.

Equipped with modern medical appliances and known for their quality medical service, they play a pivotal role in the relevant medical service sectors.

Inaugurated 10 years before, the Breast Tumour Institute of the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital has developed a molecular target pharmacotherapy based on bioengineering technology in recent years to make notable achievements in the medical treatment of patients.

The Okryu Children’s Hospital is so designed to resemble a fairytale garden that suits the children’s mentalities. And it has teachers and classrooms where schoolchildren can continue their studies after being admitted to the hospital.

Health workers of the hospital have recently achieved remarkable successes to break through the cutting edge of the academic circles in the treatment of various children’s diseases including heart surgery.

The Koryo Medicine General Hospital wins growing popularity as it successfully puts traditional Koryo therapies that suit the physical conditions and characteristics of the Korean people on a scientific footing and further improves their efficacy.

The Ryugyong General Ophthalmic Hospital and Ryugyong Dental Hospital in distinctive architectural styles are also called a ‘place of restoring eyesight” and a “place of regaining one of the five blessings”.

Many people are seen shedding tears of joy and wearing happy smiles after curing eye diseases whose treatment they gave up themselves and regaining eyesight and treating toothache at the hospitals. Before leaving the hospitals, they express their heartfelt gratitude to their health workers.
