After clarifying the orientation of Party and state work for this year at the Fourth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea at the end of 2021, Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the WPK, convened Party and state meetings at opportune times, including the Fifth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Party Central Committee and the Seventh Session of the 14th Supreme People’s Assembly and sectoral meetings, to advance important guidelines for the buildup of the Party and national prosperity. 

Thus, the Korean people were faced with the important tasks of switching over to the overall development of socialist construction by carrying out the assignments given by the Fourth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the WPK.

They were eager to hit the target full of confidence without fail.

On the other hand, there were great challenges and difficulties. 

The challenges we faced were the most serious ones which had been unprecedented in the 70-odd-year history of the DPRK. 

The moves by hostile forces to stifle the DPRK got more outrageous, a state of emergency was created by the inflow of COVID-19 and natural disasters hit the country, including downpour and drought. 

However, we have made remarkable successes one after another by overcoming all trials and hardships. 

Among them are the military parade in celebration of the 90th anniversary of the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army in which strength and arts were mysteriously combined, a great victory in the anti-epidemic campaign which was achieved in over 90 days by overcoming the unexpected anti-epidemic crisis that can be claimed to be a greatest turmoil in the history of the country, the adoption of the law on the policy of national nuclear forces, the completion of the largest-ever Ryonpho Greenhouse Farm in the world, the construction of Songhwa Street and Pothong Riverside Terraced Houses District, the ongoing construction project in the Hwasong area which revealed its figure, the completion of the Orangchon Power Station and the provision of a model of local industry modernization in Kimhwa County, the construction of rural dwelling houses and rural mechanization which are now pushed nationwide and others. The successes and entities of change made last year can be claimed to be miracles. 

These never came of their own accord with the passage of time and chance has nothing to do with them. 

It has been brought about by Kim Jong Un’s heart and soul, great pains and devotion.

He visited the Ryonpho area where people found it hard even to open their eyes due to strong wind from the sea to designate the site for a greenhouse farm so as to solve the problem of vegetables for South Hamgyong provincial people and wisely led the whole process of its construction. In the top emergency anti-epidemic period, when the malignant virus made inroads into the country’s territory, he also personally visited pharmacies where the risk of infection was great to provide guidance for the anti-epidemic campaign. 

Whenever the Korean people look back again upon all victories which were made thanks to his selfless devotion and wise leadership, they further cherish a firm faith in victory that they are not afraid of any trials as long as they are led by General Secretary Kim Jong Un and the socialist cause will surely emerge victorious.
