Before the country’s liberation from Japanese military rule the Korean people suffered all kinds of misfortune and pain of being a lesser nation with their dignity having been trampled underfoot.

They were deprived of their dignity and rights, laughter and dream and even spoken and written language and names. They had land but no place to live in and they were alive, but nothing short of dead. It was their tragic plight. And it was the miserable fate of the Korean people who lost their country to the Japanese imperialists and groaned under their brutal suppression.

It was President Kim Il Sung who restored and protected the dignity and position of the Korean people lost to the oppressors.

Embarking on the road of revolution in his early teens, General Kim Il Sung led the all-people resistance with the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army as the main force with his extraordinary wisdom and art of command, fighting his way through the underground revolutionary struggle against the Japanese imperialists and the arduous anti-Japanese armed struggle, to win independence of the country.

After liberating the country, he carried out the agrarian reform and other major democratic reforms to complete the anti-imperialist and anti-feudal democratic revolution and founded the party, state and army, putting forward the people, who had been ruthlessly trampled down under the old yoke of feudalism and the ferocious colonial rule by the Japanese imperialists, as masters of the land, factories and the country.

The DPRK people, who emerged as proud citizens of an independent and sovereign state, closely rallied around General Kim Il Sung and won victory in the showdown with US imperialism which boasted of being the “strongest” in the world.

In the postwar period, they built towns and villages better than those before the war in a short span of time, refuting the spurious arguments of the hostile forces that the country would not rise up again in 100 years, established a socialist system and laid the foundations of an independent national economy.

As is seen above, the DPRK people defeated the formidable Japanese and US imperialists in the two revolutionary wars and created an unprecedented miracle in the history of national liberation wars, successfully carried out the two stages of social revolution, two times of reconstruction and several stages of socialist construction, and built a powerful socialist country dignified with independence in politics, self-sustenance in the economy and self-reliance in national defence under the leadership of President Kim Il Sung, the peerless patriot.

Today, the overall national power and strategic position of the DPRK have been strengthened to the highest level under the leadership of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un and its people also swell with greater pride and self-esteem.

Feeling pride in being citizens of a powerful country, the DPRK people create miracles in the onward march to add glory to the our-state-first era and work hard to build the most powerful country admired by the world, following the leadership of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.
