Rinsan white-bellied black woodpecker

The white-bellied black woodpecker is a resident bird belonging to Picidae.

It is about 46 centimetres long and weighs 330-360 grams.

It is similar to Dryocopus martius, but it is black at the head, back, wings and tail and white at the flank, chest and belly. The male bird has red patterns on the crown of the head and the cheeks. The female’s whole body is black.

The Rinsan white-bellied black woodpeckers inhabit some parts of Rinsan County of North Hwanghae Province.

It is a rare bird that can be found only in the DPRK.
