The 14th National People's Games opened with due ceremony at Pyongyang Indoor Stadium on February 25.
The sports contest will be held in Pyongyang and various other places of the country, divided into professional sports and general field (category of provinces and category of ministries and national agencies). Games will be held in dozens of events including football, basketball, volleyball, table-tennis, weightlifting, gymnastics, Taekwon-do, ice hockey and ssirum during the contest.
Present at the opening ceremony were Premier Pak Thae Song, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the National Sports Guidance Committee, members of the National Sports Guidance Committee, officials concerned, sportspersons and working people.
Kim Il Guk, minister of Physical Culture and Sports, made an opening address.
He said that the 14th National People's Games will be held to inspire with confidence in victory and optimism the people of the country who have turned out in the struggle for creation and increased production in 2025 under the leadership of the great Party Central Committee.
Expressing belief that the contest would be a significant occasion for further instilling enthusiasm for the revolution and patriotism into all the people waging a dynamic struggle for the comprehensive national rejuvenation, he declared the 14th National People's Games open.
At the end of the ceremony, there took place a march-past of teams and a Taekwon-Do demonstration.
Then followed a men's volleyball game between Pyongyang and Ryanggang Province belonging to the general field (category of provinces).
